Alexis J. Herring, DDS, MSD
My personal journey to becoming an endodontist:
“When I was in the eighth grade, I began orthodontic treatment and wore braces for three long years. After having them removed, I realized how drastically my life had changed. I did not become a complete social butterfly; however, my confidence and self-esteem rose immensely. This experience sparked my passion for dentistry. Starting dental school, my goal was to become an orthodontist. I wanted to convey the same sentiment that I had felt upon having my braces removed to someone else. Then the unthinkable happened: during my second year of dental school, the area that I once thought to be the least interesting took me by surprise. I fell in love with the field of endodontics. I soon found that through quality treatment I could improve my patients’ quality of life and comfort. What I had once wanted to do for my patients with orthodontics I could do successfully with endodontics.”
Dr. Alexis J. Herring, originally from Fairfax, Virginia, received her Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University in 2013. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University College of Dentistry in 2018. Upon graduating dental school, she completed her endodontic specialty training at Case Western Reserve University where she received a Master of Science degree and Endodontic Specialty certificate. She was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, which is the highest level of achievement that dental students strive for.
Dr. Herring has a passion for community outreach and has participated in several Missions of Mercy projects, mission trips to Treasure Beach, Jamaica, with the Christian Dental Society, the Lessons in a Lunch program and so much more. She is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists and the American Dental Association.
Through high-quality endodontic treatment, she is committed to improving her patients' quality of life and comfort. Her ability to show empathy and compassion toward her patients makes them feel at ease, fostering a pleasant and comfortable treatment experience.
In her spare time, Dr. Herring enjoys experiencing the outdoors, fitness and wellness, cooking, DIY projects, reading, traveling and spending time with loved ones.
